Today, more Nigerians are now realizing the importance of learning French language.
The next question now is where is the best place to learn the language?
According to the common European Framework of Reference for Languages, your competence in any language must be evident in your ability to speak, write, listen to and read the language.
In that case, I will set this as metrics while letting you know the best place to learn French Language in Nigeria.
Most times, learning language is expensive and can take much of your time and energy.
Therefore it is important to be in the right place of learning where you can get access to the right resource and subject matter that will help you to learn the language faster.
There is no doubt that you may get discouraged if you are achieving little with time.

If you think of a pedagogic approach to learning your French Language, Alliance Française is the best place for you. You will have access to limitless video, audio and text materials.
There are 10 network of alliance Français in Nigeria as follows: Kaduna, Lagos, Maiduguri, Owerri, Enugu, Ibadan, Ilorin Jos, Kano, and Port Harcourt. Each of these centers is equipped with quality instructors, standard library and good learning environment.
Some of the instructors you will find in Alliance Français are from nearby African francophone countries whose first language is French. In some cases, there are also French nationals around to teach you.
All your teaching materials in classes are directly from France.
You cannot doubt the standard of French immersion you will receive here.
Learning French at the Alliance Français is affordable because the organization is registered as a non for profit.
All French international proficiency examinations in Nigeria is written at the alliance Français.
Some internationally recognized examiations you can take at the Alliance Français include the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF A1- C2) and the Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF) .

2. The Nigerian French Language Village:
This is a pure French speaking institution established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1991.
The institution is located in Aajara, Badagry, Lagos. It welcomes students from all universities in Nigeria for a year language immersion.
You don’t have to be a French student from Nigerian universities to benefit from the service of the institutions, there are also programs for all and sundry who are interested in learning French.
The institution offers diploma certificate and other certificate courses in French language to stand as an evident of your French language proficiency.
One thing you will benefit from in French village is the abundance of young people from diverse places to practice your French language with.
Here, French language is learnt with fun.
There are enough experienced lecturers and professors waiting for you.

3. Nigerian Tertiary institutions:
Most Nigerian Universities and colleges of Education that offer French language as a course also have special programmes that can suit you.
In case you are located near any of these institutions, you can call in and make enquiries.
Some of them offer three months certificate courses and diploma different from their regular degree awarding programmes.
Most Nigerian Higher institution now teaches French and other Languages using the pedagogic process. You will learn how to speak, read, listen and write in French.

There are enough websites out there that teach French Language online.

However, when learning French language online, high level of discipline is required.
You need to also look for people around who you can practise the language with. otherwise, it will not be effective enough trying to sharpen your speaking online compare to speaking with people you can see.

If you are in a city like Lagos and Ibadan, you can navigate yourself to a language school. Once you surf the internet to certain extent, y0u will likely locate a center near you.
Ensure that the language school you choose is using the right materials and instructors.
Also, do not learn language in a non-conducive environment. Otherwise, you will get easily fed up.
Language is best learnt in an attractive and relaxed atmosphere so much that you will always long for more. Therefore, ensure you find a very suitable place.
6. Friends and Family:
Your friends and family members who speak French are one of the most suitable people you can learn from.
First, they will not charge you what you can’t afford and in some cases, you can even learn it totally free. For example, while you are in the higher institution, your friends in French departments can schedule time to teach you.
The only factor that can trickle down your learning process is that you may not give it total attention.
Too much familiarity brings contempt.
There is tendency you will not take the whole thing seriously when learning from a friend or family member who is teaching you almost freely.
In conclusion, irrespective of where you are learning French language from, your personal motivation is the most crucial.
Give it your time and energy.
What is what doing at all is worth doing well.
You will need to do a lot of personal build up.
You should listen to conversations and songs in French language. Also, read novels, make use of dictionaries and most importantly speak it always.
