Applications are open for the Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) prize competition 2021.

African Business Heroes (ABH) Is the Jack Ma Foundation’s flagship philanthropic program in Africa to support entrepreneurs. Our mission is to showcase and grow local talent who are creating positive impact in their communities and beyond, and inspire a movement of African entrepreneurship. Over a ten –year period, the program will recognize 100 African entrepreneurs and provide grant funding, training programs, and broader support for the broad African entrepreneurial ecosystem.

ABH PRIZE

Africa’s Business Heroes supports talented and promising African entrepreneurs through its namesake prize competition. Each year the prize for selects ten “business Heroes “from across Africa that compete for their share of USD 1.5 million in grant funding. During the competition, participants have also exclusive access to training, mentoring and learning programmes as well as to a community of like-minded African business leaders.

  • Opportunity to pitch business legends and receive advice from them.
  • Stand a chance to win your share of 1.5 million USD, all ten finalist wins grant funds from $100,000 to $300,000.

  • An online community of ABH Alumni, judges and key stakeholders that promotes peer learning, engagement, and networking.
  • Tailored feedback, Mentorship& training through the Africa’s Business Heroes Network of partners and judges.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant should be the founder or co-founder of the company.
  • Applicant should have African citizenship or is a grand-child of an African citizen.
  • The company is registered and headquartered in an African country, and primarily operates in Africa.
  • The company is post-idea stage. Business is 3 years old or more and has at least 3 years of revenue history.

JUDGING PROCESS

  1. ROUND 1: An online application and review process to determine our top 50 finalists. Each application will be reviewed by two judges.
  2. ROUND 2: Video-call interviews with established business leaders who determines our top 20 finalists.
  3. SEMI-FINAL PITCH: In person pitches with a distinguish and experienced panel of investors, business leaders and professionals to determine our top 10 finalists.
  4. DUE DILLIGENCE: Our shortlisted top 10 finalists will need due diligence checks by our partner: price waterhouse cooper (PWC) in order to be confirmed an ANPI2021 Africa‘s business Heroes and to have their chance to pitch at the Africa’s Business Heroes Show.

APPLICATION

The following are required for application:

  • An online written application
  • Video introductions. You will be required to film and upload 3 separate videos, each 1 minutes long:
  1. Self & company introduction
  2. Team introduction & testimonial
  • Customer Testimonial
  • A reference from a mentor, friend, teammate or partner. A reference should be someone who has work with you and can write provide a written testimonial on your character, work ethic, passion and drive.
